DAVAO CITY – Davao City first district Rep. Paolo Duterte issued on Wednesday night, April 30, a scathing statement condemning the alleged harassment of the Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group against his family.
In a strongly worded message released to the media, Rep. Duterte expressed alarm over recent operations conducted by the PNP–CIDG in Davao City, calling their actions “a clear crossing of the line.”
The lawmaker added that certain police officials allegedly have abandoned their duty to uphold justice in favor of personal or financial gain.
“It is disheartening to see that those sworn to uphold the law are being blinded—not by justice, but by money,” Duterte said.
“The real criminals in our society are being ignored while some in the higher ranks have seemingly sold their integrity,” he added.
Rep. Duterte revealed that his team has been actively documenting the events and identifying those involved in the alleged harassment.
He warned that accountability will come, not through political means, but through what he called “the very forces of justice” that law enforcers have “turned their back on.”
Rep. Duterte claimed that the government has deployed significant police forces to Davao City, including 30 CIDG operatives and 90 members of the Special Action Force from Luzon.
“To those among you from SAF who blindly follow these operations, know this—we already know where you are heading, and many are waiting,” Rep. Duterte said, hinting at strong local resistance to the ongoing operations.
While the reasons for national security forces in Davao City remain unclear, Rep. Duterte’s statement suggests a rising political tension between local leadership and national enforcement agencies.
As of this writing, the PNP-CIDG has not released an official statement in response to Rep. Duterte’s allegations.
However, legal and political analysts say the controversy could spark further scrutiny of police operations in Mindanao.
