BUTUAN CITY – Police have arrested 45 individuals for violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban in the Caraga region from Jan. 12 to the present.
Police Regional Office-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Christopher N. Abrahano said six violators were caught in Butuan City, 23 in the provinces of Agusan del Norte and Sur, and 16 in the provinces of Surigao del Norte and Sur.
“Some of the individuals were arrested in our established checkpoints strategically located in different areas in the region,” he said.
Sezied from them were 16 caliber .45 pistols, 15 revolvers, three caliber 9mm pistols, six homemade firearms called “paltik,” one caliber .22, one shotgun, one Class A light weapon, two replicas, and three explosives.
"As Election Day draws near, rest assured that our campaign against criminality and loose firearms will be intensified,” he said.
“Let us sustain our momentum by reporting any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station," Abrahano said.
