MPower, the local retail electricity unit of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), has renewed its partnership with Toyota Aisin Philippines Inc. (TAP) to provide sustainable power to the Japanese-led auto parts maker’s manufacturing plant in the country.
In a statement on Wednesday, April 2, MPower said it has extended its decade-long retail electricity supply (RES) agreement with TAP to continue its delivery of energy solutions to the latter’s facility in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Their initial collaboration began in 2013, when MPower supplied electricity to TAP, eventually transitioning to 100-percent renewable energy (RE) by December 2019.
TAP is the first manual transmission manufacturing plant established outside of Japan under a joint venture of Aisin Corp. Japan and Toyota Motor Corp. Japan and Philippines.
“With 95 percent of its drivetrain components exported to Toyota plants and affiliates worldwide, uninterrupted and efficient energy supply is crucial to maintaining its high production standards,” it stated.
Allan Cantal, acting general manager of TAP, stated that the company remains committed to seeking sustainable partnerships, with MPower playing a key role in its strategy.
“MPower has consistently proven to be a reliable energy provider, ensuring the seamless operation of our manufacturing processes while fully aligning with our commitment to clean, renewable energy solutions. Their dedication to supporting our environmental objectives has been instrumental in maintaining the efficiency and sustainability of our operations,” he said.
Redel Domingo, MPower head and Meralco first vice president, added that the RES company “remains committed to delivering dependable, efficient energy solutions that empower businesses like TAP to thrive. By offering competitive energy prices, MPower enables Toyota to be competitive in their own industry and remain top-of-mind.”
This year, MPower has racked up its electricity supply deals with several companies, including partnerships with the Araneta Group, Megasoft Hygienic Products Inc., Mega Land Prime Estate Corp., Pioneer Highlands South Condominium, SM Retail, and ABS-CBN.
The firm currently has a 25-percent share of the competitive retail electricity market within the distribution utility’s (DU) franchise area.
