Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidate Las Piñas City lone district Rep. Camille Villar has highlighted the huge upside of the mango industry in the Philippines.
This, after Villar visited on Wednesday, April 2 the municipality of San Carlos in Pangasinan during the Mango-Bamboo Festival. The town is known for its delicious mangoes.
“Kitang-kita po natin na napakalaki ng potensyal ng industriyang ito at marami pa po tayong pwedeng gawin, marami pa po tayong magagawa para magtuloy-tuloy ang pag-improve ng industriya ng mangga lalo na dito sa San Carlos," she said, after sampling the mangoes there.
(We can clearly see the huge potential of this industry and we can still do a lot of things, we can still do a lot to ensure the continued improvement of the mango industry especially here in San Carlos.)
"Para po magkaroon ng karagdagang kaalaman sa produksyon, sa orchard management, maaring sa technology ng processing para lalo pa pong tumaas ang yield at production ng ating mga mango producers,” Villar added.
(Doing so will give us extra knowledge on production, on orchard management, on potential processing technologies so that the yield of our mango producers would increase.)
Villar notes that mangoes are the second most consumed product in the world at 28 percent, next to bananas (29.4 percent). The Philippines ranked number 10 in terms of mango production around the world.
Villar thanked San Carlos City Mayor Julier “Ayo” Resuello and board member Vici Ventanilla (3rd district, Pangasinan) and the rest of the people of San Carlos for inviting her to the festival.
The House deputy speaker also lauded the city government led by Mayor Resuello for prioritizing the cultivation of mango for commercial fruit productuon.
Villar said she has learned from her parents--former Senate President Manny Villar and Agriculture Committee Chairperson Senator Cynthia Villar--the need to boost agriculture outputs to improve farm production in the country.
