Senator Joel Villanueva on Tuesday, April 29 expressed hope that voters will choose to support and vote senatorial candidates who are bent on advancing Philippine interests in the upcoming May 2025 elections.
Villanueva pointed this out as he acknowledged that the issue of choosing senatorial candidates who are either pro- or anti- China “is a big issue” during the May 2025 campaign.
“I think it’s a big issue, not just pro or anti-China, but I think yung (voting for senatorial bets who are) pro-Philippines is very important,” Villanueva said in a Kapihan sa Senado forum.
“We really have to fight for what is ours,” he said.
“China will do their thing, and so, we should do our part,” Villanueva added.
Villanueva, whose father is CIBAC Party-list Rep. Eddie Villanueva, and founder of the Jesus-Is-Lord (JIL) Church, said their organization’s search committee is also bent on endorsing senators who are pro-Philippines.
“Even the (JIL) search committee would agree with me that those (candidates) who refuse to defend the country’s sovereignty would not be supported,” he stressed.
Nevertheless, he said the JIL Church won’t compel their members to do “bloc voting.”
“We don’t encourage (bloc voting). We only endorse candidates. That’s your personal right. But it’s important to guide your members,” he stressed.
Villanueva said he can only pray for voters to be wise in choosing the next set of lawmakers who would be good for the nation.
“I’m praying hard that the right candidates will emerge,” he said.
