A total of 1,288 policemen were dismissed from the service for various offenses in more than one year of aggressive internal cleansing starting April 1 last year, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said the same aggressive internal cleansing from April 1, 2024 to April 23, 2025 resulted in the demotion of 172 policemen and suspended of 1,456 others.
Other penalties, he said, include disciplinary actions, such as salary forfeitures, reprimands, and restrictions.
“These actions reflect the PNP's commitment to maintain discipline and uphold the trust of the people,” said Marbil.
The official issued the statement following the arrest of seven policemen tagged in extorting money from a Chinese businessman and four more cops in Quezon City who were accused of mishandling of evidence and failure to follow proper procedures.
He said those who are involved in illegal activities are just few in numbers compared to those who continue to adhere to upholding the integrity of the profession.
And to those who are caught, Marbil said the number of those dismissed and punished showed the PNP’s zero tolerance policy.
“We will not allow a few corrupt officers to tarnish the integrity of the entire police force. The PNP is resolutely committed to pursuing justice, and we will not rest until all those responsible for criminal acts within the force are removed,” said Marbil.
“The PNP assures the public that it will continue to strengthen its internal disciplinary mechanisms and ensure that all officers adhere to the law, upholding the values of integrity, accountability, and public service,” he added.
