Mayor Wes bans illegal trash dumping near Valenzuela bridge

Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian has banned the dumping of garbage near the Gen. T. De Leon-Ugong Bridge, the city government announced on Tuesday, April 29.

According to the Public Information Office (PIO), Gatchalian personally inspected a private lot in the area on Monday, April 28, and discovered the improper disposal of waste.

Following the inspection, the mayor directed the Waste Management Office (WMO) to promptly remove the garbage and tasked the Engineering Office to install a high barrier at the site to prevent further dumping activities.

"This is a serious concern not only for the environment but also for public health," Gatchalian said.

"We are committed to maintaining cleanliness and order across Valenzuela,” he added.

He also reminded residents to strictly follow waste disposal regulations, particularly placing household waste outside only on designated collection days.

The mayor emphasized that these practices are mandated under City Ordinance No. 525, Series of 2018, or the Environment Code of Valenzuela City, and City Ordinance No. 557, Series of 2019, or the Health and Sanitation Code of Valenzuela City.

He urged residents to report any illegal dumping activities to help keep the city clean and safe.
