In a world where the truth and loyalty are challenged, President Marcos told new police officers to let their presence be felt by the public.

"My dear officers, this country will never ask you to be perfect. But it will ask you to be present. Be there. Let our people feel your presence, feel the presence of the law enforcers, feel the presence of the law," Marcos told the graduates of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) "Sinaglawin" Class of 2025 on Tuesday, April 29.
The President told them to always choose to be honorable even without recognition, and stand for what is right even when no one is watching.
"Sa mundo natin ngayon, madalas pinagtatalunan ang katotohanan at madaling maligaw ang katapatan, hinihiling ko sa inyo: Piliin ang marangal kahit walang parangal at ang paninindigan na tama kahit walang nakakakita (In a world where truth is often challenged and loyalty is easily lost, I ask you to choose to be honorable even without recognition and to stand for what is right even when no one is watching)," Marcos said.
The commander-in-chief reminded them that "your acts make the system. You shape the system with your restraint, with your dignity, and your service."
"Always take [into] heart your oath to our Republic. Your duty to uphold and defend the Constitution. Your responsibility to the citizens of our country," Marcos said.
'Remember why you choose this path'
When doubts started to creep in, Marcos told the new police lieutenants to remember their reasons for pursuing to be police officers.
"As public servants, we know that the path ahead is not always easy. There will be times when ideals and reality will seem to pull you in different directions. There will be moments that will test your principles and your convictions," Marcos said in his speech.
"But whenever those days come and doubts creep in, remember who you are and why you chose this path," he added.
He reminded them that as law officers, they are here to help overcome those challenges through service, honor, and justice.
The President stressed that it is not a secret that the police face many challenges, including those members of the police force who seemed to have forgotten their oath.
He, however, expressed his confidence to the country's police force that they will continue to clean their ranks and strengthen their professionalism.
"So, to the 'Sinaglawin' Class of 2025, this is your chance to make a difference. Your coming this far tells me and the entire Filipino nation that you are ready and that you are prepared," Marcos told them.
Marcos led the graduation rites of the 206 graduating cadets of the ‘Sinaglawin’ Class of 2025 at Camp General Mariano N. Castañeda in Silang, Cavite.
The class name, which comes from sinag (ray of light) and lawin (hawk), reflects the cadets’ mission to be watchful, brave and full of hope as future leaders in public safety.
