"Paumanhin niyo na medyo nagyayabang po tayo na ang Pilipinas ngayon ay kinokonsidera ng ating mga karatig-bansa — the Philippines is one of the fastest-growing economies in Asia," he said during the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas rally in Lucena City on Friday, May 2.
"Talo po natin yung mga malalaking bansa. Talo po natin yung mga mayayaman na bansa (We're surpassing large and wealthy nations)," he added.
The President emphasized that the country's growth is not just statistical but felt in the daily lives of Filipinos.
"Ang paglago po ng ekonomiya sinisiguro po natin may epekto ito sa pang-araw-araw na buhay ng ating mga kababayan (We make sure that this economic growth has an impact on the daily lives of our fellow citizens)," he said.
Marcos was quick to credit the Filipino people for the nation’s economic momentum.
"Hindi po nangyari ito dahil sa akin po (This did not happen because of me)," he said.
"Nangyari po ito dahil ang husay ng Pilipino, dahil ang galing ng Pilipino, dahil malaki ang pusong pagmamahal sa bansa ng Pilipinas ng ating mga mamamayan (This happened because of the excellence, brilliance, and patriotism of the Filipino people)," he added.
The Chief Executive said the government is sustaining growth by building critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, seaports, irrigation, and flood control systems.
He cited the completion of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1, which added five new stations to the rail network in November.
"Bukod dito, tuloy-tuloy pa ang pagpapatayo, pagpapaayos, at pagpapalawig ng samu’t saring tulay, daan, at pantalan sa buong bansa (Aside from this, we are continuously building, repairing, and expanding various bridges, roads, and ports nationwide)," he said.
"Pati na yung mga flood control, pati na yung mga dam para sa irigasyon ng ating mga magsasaka (This includes flood control systems and irrigation dams for our farmers)," he added.
The President also highlighted the country’s lowest unemployment rate in two decades and a full-year gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 5.6 percent in 2024, with 5.2 percent growth in the fourth quarter alone.
