Man attacked by crocodile in Zamboanga Sibugay

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A man was bitten by a crocodile after he reportedly went inside its cage in a wetlands park in Siay town, Zamboanga Sibugay province on Monday, April 28.

A report from the Siay Municipal Police Station said the victim was bitten on the right leg by the reptile when lawmen arrived.

Investigation disclosed that 29-year-old Eric Saladaga Vista, a mentally impaired man, was roaming inside the Kabug Island Mangrove and Wetlands Park when his attention was caught by a crocodile inside a cage.

Thinking it was a toy, the victim jumped inside the cage and was attacked and bitten.

Vista was rescued by the crocodile owner, identified as Nanding Panogan, and was taken to the Dr. George T. Hofer Memorial Hospital in Ipil municipality, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
