Trying to heal the wound from last year’s outcome, the Lady Spikers are up to redeem themselves against the Golden Tigresses to complete their attempt of taking what they failed to clinch a season ago – a twice-to-bid advantage – in their 2 p.m. clash.
The matchup also serves as a preview of their semis clash with the No. 2 and 3 teams eventually meeting in the Final Four.
Reigning champion and top seed National University, meanwhile tackles No. 4 Far Eastern University in the other semis bracket with the schedule yet to be announced.
Even though the Taft-based squad split its last two encounters with UST, the Lady Spikers are determined to strike back after suffering a semis heartbreak to the Tigresses in Season 86.
Earlier this season, La Salle head coach Ramil de Jesus made it known their goal of earning a twice-to-beat advantage. It is easier said than done, however.
“Actually ito talaga ‘yong goal namin na hawakan ‘yong second hanggang sa dulo para at least makuha namin ‘yong twice-to-beat advantage,” said de Jesus earlier this month.
Despite failing to keep its grip on second place after yielding to FEU in four sets last weekend, La Salle has its chance of grabbing it with skipper Angel Canino and Shevana Laput leading the pack.
They have Amie Provido, Alleiah Malaluan, Mikole Reyes and second stringers Baby Jyne Soreno and Shane Reterta to rely on as the supporting crew.
UST, meanwhile, also had its opportunity to secure the second seat last Sunday, but unfortunately yielded to NU in a thrilling five-set encounter.
The Tigresses brace for a daunting task ahead, with Angge Poyos, Reg Jurado, Cassie Carballo, and Detdet Pepito spearheading the attack.
