Bagong Henerasyon (BH) Party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera has doubled down on their advocacy of uplifting the lives of solo parents, even as the mid-term elections are less than two weeks away.
“If and when we get re-elected, BH Bagong Henerasyon Paty-list's commitment to the welfare and empowerment of solo parents grows even stronger. They are the unsung heroes of our society, and their struggles deserve our full attention and action,” Herrera said in a statement.
The principal author of the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act, Herrera highlighted her legislative agenda for 2025 and beyond, which includes pushing for enhanced financial aid, better access to affordable housing, and expanded healthcare benefits for solo parents.
“Our work is far from over. While the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act has brought relief to many, there is still much to be done to ensure that solo parents and their children are fully supported. I will continue to champion their cause in Congress,” the House deputy minority leader stressed.
Herrera urged local government units (LGUs) and national agencies to expedite the rollout of the Solo Parent ID and ensure that all eligible solo parents can access the benefits it provides, such as discounts on essential goods, education, and healthcare services.
To address the housing needs of solo-parent households, Herrera aims to prioritize measures that offer subsidized housing programs and rental assistance to solo parents, particularly those living in urban centers.
Acknowledging the high cost of childcare, Herrera is advocating for increased government subsidies and public-private partnerships to establish more daycare centers accessible to solo parents nationwide.
Herrera stressed the importance of providing mental health support to solo parents who often bear immense emotional and psychological burdens. She plans to work closely with government agencies and national government organizations (NGOs) to develop community-based wellness programs.
The veteran congresswoman is also eyeing initiatives to boost economic opportunities for solo parents, including employment and entrepreneurship programs, flexible work arrangements, and access to low-interest business loans.
“We are entering a crucial period where we can make even greater strides for solo parents. I call on my colleagues in Congress and our partners in the private sector to work with me in building a future where no solo parent feels left behind,” Herrera said.
The BH Bagong Henerasyon Party-list solon reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to being the voice of solo parents in Congress, ensuring that their needs remained at the forefront of the legislative agenda.
“This is not just a legislative fight for me—it is a personal mission. I will continue to stand with and fight for solo parents in 2025 and beyond,” she stressed.
