Bam Aquino wants higher teacher pay, more budget for SUCs

Not only he is planning to expand the scope of his Free College Law when he wins a Senate seat on May 12, senatorial candidate Bam Aquino will also be pushing for higher budget for the upgrade of state universities and colleges (SUCs) and for the augmentation of teachers’ salaries.
The former senator was in Pangasinan province on Saturday, May 3, for a series of campaign sorties heading to Election Day nine days from now.
He told local officials there of the importance of upgrading SUCs to accommodate the influx of college students that would soon be covered by his Free College Law if he wins a seat in Senate and expands the budget to accommodate more beneficiaries.
“Kapag nakabalik tayo sa Senado, titiyakin din natin na may pondo ang pag-upgrade sa ating SUCs, gaya ng pagdaragdag ng classrooms at mga laboratory, pati na salary increase ng ating mga guro (If we return to the Senate, we will make sure that there are funds for the upgrade of our SUCs, like additional classrooms and laboratory, including the salary increase of our teachers),” he said.
As early as now, Aquino wants the facilities of SUCs to be prepared for more student-beneficiaries.
“Kailangang maging handa na sa pagtaas ng bilang ng mga estudyante sa ating mga SUC dahil sa libreng kolehiyo. Mahalaga na magkaroon sila ng environment na akma sa pag-aaral (Our SUCs need to be ready for additional students because of free college. It’s important for them to have a conducive environment for learning),” he added.
Aside from SUCs, the former senator also vowed to help local universities and colleges (LUCs) so they can also implement the Free College Law.
He will also be reaching out to private academic institutions for additional scholarship to help students in the private school system.
Millions have already benefited from Aquino’s landmark law, which he plans to strengthen and boost if he becomes senator in this month’s midterm polls.
In the lead up to the end of the campaign season, Aquino will hold a motorcade in Metro Manila on Sunday, May 4.
Joining him are artists Iza Calzado, Bea Binene, Elijah Canlas, and Kerwin King, among others.
He will also be with LPGMA Partylist as he goes around Metro Manila, with stops in Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Makati, Pasay, Mandaluyong, Quezon City, and Valenzuela.
