'May entrance fee': 3 cops nabbed for collecting money from visitors of Caloocan police inmates

A police major and two of his men, as well as two inmates of the Caloocan City Police Station, were arrested for allegedly extorting money from the visitors of the detainees during an entrapment operation over the weekend.
Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the operation stemmed from the complaint of the relatives of one of the inmates who claimed that they are being forced to pay at least P1,500 per visit.
The policemen allegedly told the visitors that of the P1,500 payment, a total of P200 is payment as entry fee, P550 for using the waiting area, P100 as mandatory food for the detainee during the visit and other expenses.
Marbil said he immediately ordered the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) to conduct an operation which resulted in the arrest on Saturday, April 26, of a police major, a policeman with a rank of Police Master Sergeant, and another cop with a rank of Patrolman.
Two other detainees of the Caloocan City Police were collared as they were allegedly the one in charge of the collection of fees and the arrangement of the visits.
“We will not tolerate corruption in our ranks. This successful operation only shows that we are not stopping in our internal cleansing,” said Marbil.
The three policemen were taken to the IMEG headquarters at Camp Crame and is now facing criminal cases, as well as administrative charges with a maximum penalty of dismissal from the service.
