All national roads and bridges in Sorsogon remain open and safe for travel despite light ashfall from Bulusan Volcano's recent activity, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Monday, Apr. 28.
In its situational update as of 6 a.m., the DPWH said traffic flow remained light to moderate along major thoroughfares, including sections of Maharlika Highway where ashfall was observed between K0610+200 and K0615+000.
“Maintenance crews have been deployed to monitor ashfall-prone areas and conduct clearing operations as necessary to prevent disruptions to motorists,” the DPWH said.
“No untoward incidents have been reported across the province’s road network, while cloudy skies prevailed following the volcanic activity,” it added.
Although the thickness of ash deposits has yet to be determined, the DPWH assured that its Disaster and Incident Management Team, along with maintenance personnel and equipment, remains on heightened alert to respond to any developments.
The agency emphasized that national routes under its jurisdiction remain fully passable to all types of vehicles, with continuous inspections being carried out to ensure road safety.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) maintained Bulusan Volcano under Alert Level 1, indicating low-level unrest that could trigger steam-driven explosions and localized ashfall.
Motorists traveling through affected areas were advised to exercise caution as clearing operations and monitoring activities continue to ensure unhampered access throughout Sorsogon.
