DILG sets good governance discussions for newly-elected local officials in July

The Department of the Interior and Local Government-National Capital Region (DILG-NCR) will conduct a program that will assist the newly-elected officials (NEO) of Metro Manila in enhancing their leadership and management skills leading towards good local governance.
Initiated by the Local Government Academy (LGA), the NEO program is slated for implementation from July to August 2025 upon the assumption of duty of the newly elected officials.
Through the DILG’s Local Government Capability Development Division (LGCDD), the program aims to assist the Metro Manila newly-elected officials in navigating the complexities of urban local governance.
Dubbed as the “Nurturing Effective Officials for National Capital Region,” the program is pursuant to the DILG’s mandate and steadfast commitment to providing effective technical assistance to the local government units (LGUs).
A consultative meeting with representatives of the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines (VMLP) on Newly Elected Officials (NEO) program in NCR in relation to the program.
“Activities include vice mayors and councilors meetings with newly-elected officials to tackle pressing urban governance challenges of the region, promote inter-jurisdictional collaboration, and devise innovative and data-driven solutions,’’ the DILG noted.
The DILG-NCR also had planned the capacity development activities on local development planning for its technical personnel to ensure that they are well equipped to provide effective technical assistance to newly elected officials.
Through the DILG said that the active participation of the representatives of the VMLP, valuable insights and suggestions were gathered which will aid in the refinement of the NEO-NCR program’s design and implementation strategies.
“Another iteration of the consultative meeting is set with representatives from the League of Cities of the Philippines and the Metro Manila Councillors League to ensure all insights are integrated,’’ the DILG added.
In a statement, the DILG-NCR emphasized that the program is a testament to its commitment to ensuring that its capacity development interventions are apt and responsive to the needs of LGU functionaries, thus leading to enhanced governance capacities and optimal public service delivery.
The DILG-NCR through the LGCDD facilitated the consultative meeting with representatives from the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines (VMLP) and Newly Elected Officials (NEO) program in NCR.
