APARRI, Cagayan – The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Calayan, Cagayan is conducting assessment following two strong offshore earthquake that struck the municipality before dawn on Monday.

The municipality has reported no injuries or damages from the earthquakes as of posting time.
The Maritime Industry Authority advised boat owners in the Ilocos and Cagayan Valley regions who continue their operations to take a high level of caution following the earthquakes.
Boat owners and related sectors were mandated to ensure the safety of their vessels, boats, and other equipment against the possible effects of aftershocks.
Marina advised them to follow established protocols and listen to official announcements from authorities.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the first earthquake struck before 1 a.m. and had a magnitude of 5.5. The epicenter of the tectonic earthquake was 13 kilometers west of Dalupiri Island and had a depth of 15 km.
The second tectonic earthquake was recorded at 1:18 a.m. and had a magnitude of 5.8. Its epicenter was located 73 kilometers west of Dalupiri Island and had a depth of 48 kilometers.
