Scorching May 4: PAGASA flags 17 areas for 'dangerous' heat index

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a heat index alert for Sunday, May 4, warning residents in 17 areas nationwide of dangerously high temperatures.

Based on PAGASA’s heat index forecast released on May 3, extreme temperatures will persist across the country. Metro Manila, in particular, could experience a "danger" level heat index of 43 degrees Celsius (°C).
The forecast indicated that the highest heat index of 44°C may be recorded in Aparri and Tuguegarao in Cagayan, Echague in Isabela, and Cavite City in Cavite province.
A heat index of 43°C may also be recorded in Pasay City, Metro Manila; Bacnotan in La Union; Iba in Zambales; Clark in Pampanga; Camiling and Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac; and Tanauan in Batangas.
Meanwhile, the following areas may reach a heat index of 42°C: Quezon City, Metro Manila; Dagupan in Pangasinan; Laoag City and Batac in Ilocos Norte; and Tayabas City and Alabat in Quezon.
The heat index, which measures what the temperature feels like to the human body, is expected to reach levels that pose serious health risks such as heat exhaustion, heat cramps, and even heat stroke. 
PAGASA classified heat indices ranging from 42°C to 51°C as “dangerous.”
The public is advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and take necessary precautions—especially during peak heat hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
