PNP notes 'peaceful' Labor Day observance

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said the observance of Labor Day on Thursday, May 1, was “peaceful and orderly” despite 15,000 rallyists staging mass protests across the country.
PNP Chief, Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil said the largest concentrations of rallies were recorded in the National Capital Region (NCR), Calabarzon (Region 4A), Western Visayas (Region 6), and Central Visayas (Region 7).
“All protest actions concluded peacefully with no untoward incidents reported,” he said.
In Manila, a policeman was hurt after cops installed steel barriers to prevent the rallyists from entering Mendiola to hold a program.

Marbil lauded the efforts of both the police and the public in ensuring a smooth and peaceful Labor Day celebration.
The PNP deployed 64,410 frontline personnel to maintain peace and security throughout the celebration, including 29,700 officers assigned to police visibility, 3,825 personnel for traffic assistance, 15,223 assigned to checkpoint and border control points, and 6,192 as part of the Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF).
There were also 7,881 Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) personnel mobilized in anticipation of civil disturbances, with 5,086 personnel on standby. In addition, 214 drone operators were fielded to enhance real-time monitoring and situational awareness.
“Our police personnel carried out their duties with utmost professionalism and respect for human rights. The peaceful outcome of this year's Labor Day activities is a testament to the maturity and cooperation of our citizens and the unwavering commitment of the PNP to safeguard public order,” Marbil said.
The national police chief emphasized that the PNP remains committed to protecting the rights and welfare of every Filipino, especially during national events.
“We thank the labor groups, local government units, and other stakeholders for their coordination and responsible conduct. The success of this year's observance reflects our shared goal of a safer, more secure, and united nation,” Marbil stated.
