Less than a month after his gold-medal haul in Taiwan, a well-rested 29-year-old Obiena returned to action and cleared 5.62 meters in two tries before falling in his pursuit of 5.72m in the elite 11-man field.

The two-time Olympian was actually tied with Australia’s Kurtis Marschall (6th), and USA’s Sam Kendricks (8th) but placed seventh via countback.
World No. 1 and Paris Games gold medalist Armand Duplantis took the Xiamen title after leaping 5.92m. The Swedish star also tried to pass 6.01m but ultimately failed.
Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis and Netherlands’ Mennos Vloon settled for the second and third honors, respectively, after a similar showing of 5.82m.
Completing the results were Belgian Ben Broeders (4th), Turkish Erus Sasma (5th), Chinese Chenyang Li (9th), and Bokai Huang (10th).
