LPA, ITCZ to bring rain showers over parts of the Philippines this weekend
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, May 2 said a low pressure area (LPA) and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) are expected to continue bringing rain showers to most of Visayas and Mindanao, as well as some areas in Bicol Region and Southern Luzon, this weekend.
PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said the LPA, which is embedded within the ITCZ, was located 440 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, as of 3 a.m., Friday.
Although the LPA still has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, Castañeda said it will continue to bring rain showers across several areas over the next two to three days.
She added that the LPA is expected to cross the Visayas and Palawan in the coming days.
As of Friday, the weather disturbance will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate.
The ITCZ is also expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the rest of Visayas and Mindanao.
Castañeda warned of possible flash floods or landslides, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will continue to experience hot and humid conditions, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon or evening.
