Deles, a longtime Marikina resident and respected peace advocate took to Facebook to express her backing for Teodoro, highlighting her competence and vision for the city’s future.
“Bilang satisfied Marikina resident, duon ako sa may pinatunayang track record, maaasahang sipag, at kapani-paniwalang vision para sa aming siyudad,” Deles said in a post.
“As a resident of Marikina since the early 1980s, si Maan Teodoro ang iboboto ko bilang susunod na Mayor ng Marikina!,” she added.
Deles made history as the first woman to serve as Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, first under President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from 2003 to 2005, and later under President Benigno Aquino III from 2010 to 2016. She was instrumental in brokering the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), which led to the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Her endorsement is seen as a boost to Teodoro’s campaign, as Deles shared the congressional representative’s plans to drive economic growth and job creation in the city.
In a video shared by Deles, Teodoro detailed proposals including the development of a Commercial District along Sumulong Highway, the establishment of a Special Economic Zone, and a Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) tailored for micro and small businesses.
“Magkakaroon tayo ng Commercial District Development sa Sumulong Highway Area na magdadala ng maraming trabaho at kabuhayan para sa mga taga-Marikina,” Teodoro said in the video.
She also promised support for entrepreneurs through business packages, startup capital, financial training, and expanded tax incentives for small enterprises.
In a bid to revitalize the local economy and culture, Teodoro plans to launch City-Organized Food Crawls and Heritage Tours to boost tourism. She also laid out plans to support the city’s iconic shoe industry through the creation of the Marikina Shoe Trade Center and a dedicated Shoe Warehouse and Coworking Space for local manufacturers and artisans.
Teodoro currently serves as the representative of Marikina’s 1st District and is running to succeed her husband, outgoing Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro.
