Off-duty cop shoots robber dead in Pampanga

CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga – A robbery suspect was killed by an off-duty police officer in Malinoville Subdivision, Barangay Malino, Mexico, Pampanga on Friday.

Investigation said the suspect scaled a metal fence and forcibly entered the home of a 36-year-old driver, Mr. DJ. The homeowner discovered the suspect inside his home allegedly carting away two mobile phones.

The intrusion was witnessed by Mr. Zabat, 56, who immediately informed his son, Police Patrolman Ray Lemuel Zabat, 29, who lives nearby.

Ray confronted suspect who was fleeing the house. The suspect reportedly drew a firearm but the police officer shot the suspect in defense.

The suspect was wounded in the abdomen and died on the spot.

Follow-up investigation is underway to determine his identity and connection to criminal activities in the area.

Police Regional Office-3 chief Police Brig. Gen. Jean S. Fajardo praised the swift and decisive action of Ray and reiterated the PNP's commitment to public safety.
