Lacuna on Comelec show-cause order: We will disprove and debunk allegations

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan vowed to respond to the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) show-ause order (SCO), affirming her full trust in the due process of law.

The incumbent mayor has been summoned by the Comelec to address accusations of vote buying and abuse of state resources (ASR).

Lacuna, who is running for a second term, was among 19 other candidates on a list released by the Comelec on Friday, April 25.

In a statement issued on Monday, April 21, Lacuna said her administration is prepared to comply with the Comelec's directive once an official copy is received.

“We will comply with the Comelec’s show cause order as soon as we receive a copy, because we believe in due process,” Lacuna said. 

“The Comelec is rightfully and properly giving us the opportunity to respond—to dispute and debunk whatever was put forward. We are ready to disprove and debunk.”

The SCO, details of which are yet to be disclosed publicly, is part of Comelec's ongoing efforts to uphold electoral fairness.

 While Lacuna did not delve into specifics, she assured the people of Manila that the city government remains steadfast in its duties.

“Sa mga minamahal kong Manileño, huwag po kayong mag-alala—tuloy pa rin ang serbisyo-publiko ng inyong Pamahalaang Lungsod. Serbisyong patas at walang pinipiling tulungan, anuman ang inyong partido o katayuan sa buhay (To my beloved Manileños, do not worry—the public service of your City Government will continue. It is a service that is fair and extends help to everyone, regardless of political affiliation or social standing).

In a video posted to her official Facebook page, Lacuna also addressed her political allies and volunteers under the Asenso Manileño movement:

“Sa mga kapanalig ko sa Asenso Manileño, mga volunteers, at mga kasamang naninindigan para sa gobyernong tapat at totoo sa anim na distrito ng Maynila, hindi tayo magpapatinag. Patuloy ang laban para sa tuluy-tuloy na progreso ng Maynila at magandang kinabukasan para sa lahat ng Manileño (To my allies in Asenso Manileño, to our volunteers, and to those who stand with us for a government that is honest and true in all six districts of Manila—we will not back down. The fight continues for Manila’s sustained progress and a better future for every Manileño).

The Manila mayor closed her statement with a call for unity and resilience.

“Sa huli, TAPAT at TOTOO ang mananaig (In the end, it is HONESTY and TRUTH that will prevail)."
