TACLOBAN CITY – Albuera, Leyte mayoral candidate Rolan “Kerwin” Espinosa has filed frustrated murder charges against seven Ormoc City policemen allegedly involved in the recent attempt against his life.

Charged were former Ormoc City police director Police Col. Reydante Ariza, Lt. Col. Leonides Sydiongco, Sgt. Alrose Astilla, Corporal Arvin Jose Baronda, Corporal Jeffrey Dagoy, Corporal Alexander Reponte, and Patrolwoman Maricor Espinosa.
Espinosa said he filed the cases to obtain justice.
The Leyte Police Provincial Office also filed charges against the seven police officers for allegedly violating Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and the Omnibus Election Code before the Leyte Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Bulwagan ng Katarungan here on April 14.
Ariza and his team were reportedly seen in a compound near the covered court of Barangay Tinag-an where Espinosa was shot after the incident.
Espinosa said he also filed the case to identify the mastermind of the incident.
He said that shooting was politically motivated and somebody ordered them to kill him.
Espinosa, who is running against Mayor Sixto dela Victoria and Leyte Provincial Board Member Vince Rama, said that that he is not directly accusing anyone.
Let us allow the justice system to investigate my case and put an end to these incidents and identify those who are behind the incident, he said.
