PRC inaugurates new blood service facility in Parañaque

Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez said a new Blood Collecting Unit (BCU)/ Blood Station in Ospital ng Parañaque II (OsPar II) was inaugurated by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Friday, April 25, reaffirming its commitment in saving lives by providing safe and quality blood supply.

Olivarez said the inauguration was attended by PRC Chairman Richard Gordon together with Rep. Edwin Olivarez, OsPar II Director, Dr. Patrick Cruz II.

He said the facility was authorized by the Department of Health (DOH) to collect blood from donors and distribute it to patients.

Gordon said the blood facility, under the care of PRC Rizal Chapter Parañaque City Branch, is the fifth blood service facility of the chapter and one of the 77 blood collecting units of the PRC nationwide.

“We simply want to make blood donation and distribution easier for our donors and beneficiaries, para mas marami pa tayong mailigtas na buhay. (to save more lives) I have instructed our 102 chapters to intensify their blood donation in the country. This new blood collecting unit and blood station is not just a facility, but a symbol of hope for our people, especially those who need blood transfusions to live,” Gordon stated.

PRC Secretary-General Dr. Gwen Pang, who was also present during the inauguration, said the establishment of the PRC Rizal Chapter’s fifth blood service facility is a strategic and lifesaving development.

Pang said that with PRC’s 109 blood service facilities, 32 blood centers, 77 blood collecting units, and 15 apheresis centers across the country, PRC ensures that no patient is turned away for lack of blood.
