The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) has conducted a training program to equip parents with concrete strategies for cultivating open communication, reinforcing discipline with empathy, and fostering a nurturing environment with their children.
In a statement Friday, April 25, the DDB asserted that the implementation of the “Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP)” program will discourage children’s risky behaviors such as substance use.
“As the home remains a child's first learning environment, the role of parents in shaping values and guiding behavior is both foundational and enduring,” the DDB emphasized.
The DDB added that it will continue to strengthen its support for families through programs that build their capacity to fulfill this vital responsibility.
Recently, the DDB supported the Sangguniang Panglunsod of Sorsogon City in its initiative to engage in a focused discussion on drug abuse prevention and control as it brought this advocacy to the community level.
The DDB pointed out that the training provided an avenue for dialogue, awareness-raising, and shared learning, all geared toward strengthening the family unit as a proactive force in drug prevention.
“Through the STEP program, participants were empowered not only with knowledge but also with a renewed sense of agency in safeguarding the well-being of their children and the wider community,” the DDB continued.
