A 55-year-old modern jeepney driver was shot dead inside the terminal he was stationed at in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Antipolo, Rizal on Wednesday, April 23, the police said.
Based on the initial investigation, the victim was sitting inside the terminal at around 3 a.m. when a man wearing a helmet and face mask entered the terminal, looked at the victim's face, and shot him dead.
The suspect quickly escaped and rode a motorcycle driven by his accomplice who was waiting outside the terminal. CCTV cameras caught the suspects escaping towards the direction of Masinag.
Witnesses say another driver and the terminal's cashier were inside the terminal when the incident occurred. Both were asleep when the victim was shot.
"Total shock po talaga kasi ako galing pa sa itaas napababa po talaga rito. Wala naman po problema sa pag-uugali niya at since traditional jeepney pa po andito na siya. Sana po mahuli na. Mamatay na siya. Masyadong brutal 'yung ginawa niya. Pinapaubaya na po namin sa mga pulis (I'm in total shock because I was sleeping from the top and rushed to go down here. There's no problem with his behavior and ever since he was still a traditional jeepney driver, he was already stationed here. I hope the gunman will be caught. What he did was too brutal)," said the victim's companion at the terminal.
The police conducted a manhunt operation against the suspects while the investigation was still ongoing.
