A 33-year-old Chinese chef was arrested by the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) for selling online a gun with an expired license in Makati City.
The police said the suspect posted the .9mm pistol for sale online for P40,000. An entrapment operation was quickly conducted which led to the suspect's arrest.
Policemen recovered the pistol and two spare magazines with live ammunition from the suspect.
Further investigation revealed that the gun's license has been expired since 1999 and was originally owned by a Filipino.
The suspect said the pistol was given to him by his Chinese friend as a gift before leaving for China. He added he was planning to use the earnings of the gun for his travel expenses in going back to China.
According to the police, the suspect and his family arrived in the Philippines in 2019, but his family returned to China after the restaurant where the suspect was working closed down due to bankruptcy.
The Chinese chef is now facing charges for violating the election gun ban and the comprehensive ammunition law.
