Scorching weather to persist as peak of dry season yet to arrive


The scorching weather currently affecting the country is expected to persist in the coming weeks, with the peak of the warm and dry season still yet to arrive, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, April 24.

PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez explained that while temperatures are already high, the worst of the heat has not yet been reached.

She said the intense heat is expected to escalate further in the coming weeks, with the peak of the warm and dry season likely still ahead.

May is typically the hottest month of the year.

PAGASA reported that the highest heat indices recorded so far this warm and dry season are in the following areas:

  • 50°C in Iba, Zambales (April 1)
  • 50°C in Los Baños, Laguna (April 15)
  • 48°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan (March 28 and April 4)
  • 48°C in San Ildefonso, Bulacan (April 15)
  • 47°C in Cavite City, Cavite (April 13)
  • 46°C in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (March 11)
  • 45°C in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (March 2)
  • 45°C in Virac, Catanduanes (March 25)
  • 45°C in Pili, Camarines Sur (March 25)
