Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) Director Col. Felipe Maraggun said a drug test on the suspect in the Antipolo bakery massacre in Barangay Cupang has been requested to fully evaluate his mental state after stabbing seven bakery workers to death on April 22.
In a radio interview, Maraggun said they want to make sure that the pieces of evidence collected from the crime scene will be properly examined by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Forensics Group despite the cooperation being displayed by the suspect, identified as alias "Bogart."
Antipolo Police Chief Lt. Col. Ryan Manongdo added they have already filed a request for the drug test and are just waiting for the forensics group's approval.
"We will just wait kung papayagan kasi hindi ito drug case. I believe meron silang policy na only mga drug cases lang ang puwede i-drug test although we tried (We will just wait if this will be granted because this isn't a drug case. I believe they have a policy wherein only suspects of drug-related cases are allowed to be tested, although we still tried)," Manongdo said.
The police were skeptical about Bogart's story that he acted alone in committing the crime, saying that he remained unharmed despite saying that he was ganged up by the victims during his rampage.
"Well, actually, isa yan sa tiningnan natin kahapon kung sa perspective ng ordinaryong tao paano niya nagawa yung pagpatay doon sa pito niyang mga kasamahan. Nakita ko yung mga physical, yung mga kasamahan niya are able bodied, malalaki at kung ikaw ay isang ordinaryong tao, talagang mag-isip ka paano niya naisagawa yung ganung krimen. But of course, ang version niya kahapon nung pinag-aralan natin since birthday niya nagpainom siya ng alak then after that natulog na itong mga kasamahan niya (That is one of the things we are investigating now because from the perspective of an ordinary human being, how can the suspect kill seven people alone. I personally saw the bodies of the victims. They were all able bodied and physically fit. But of course, the suspect's version was what we are studying yesterday since it was his birthday and he treated them to a drinking session. He proceeded to kill them as they slept)," Maraggun explained.
The police also requested the forensics group to test the drink that was given to the victims as Bogart may have laced it with chemicals to make them fall asleep.
