ILOILO CITY – The city government said no deaths were caused directly by heat stroke here.
“We wish to clarify that recent reports regarding heat-related illnesses in Iloilo City do not reflect any immediate heat stroke fatalities,” said the Iloilo city government in an official statement.

Several local and national media reported three deaths due to the intense heat wave.
“These cases were listed as heat-related illnesses and not heat stroke and may involve individuals with preexisting medical conditions that were potentially exacerbated by the extreme weather conditions,” the Iloilo city government said.
The reports were largely based from data released by the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The Iloilo CDRRMO responded to calls of eight cases of heat-related illnesses when the heat index averaged around 42 to 43 degrees Celsius from April 16 to 21.
The Iloilo CDRRMO Emergency Medical Services took six people to the hospital.
Three of them reportedly died later but no medical report directly linked their deaths to heat stroke.
Residents, particularly those with pre-existing health conditions as well as senior citizens and children, were urged to take proactive measures to avoid heat-related illnesses
