'Mga bigatin': Robredo, Arroyo endorse these Alyansa candidates

Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidates Manny Pacquiao and Benhur Abalos happily reported on Wednesday, April 23 that they have eached gained the endorsement of a political heavyweight.

They are former vice president Leni Robredo and former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, respectively.

In a statement, Pacquiao--a former senator and boxing icon--shared that he accompanied Robredo in house-to-house outreach activity as well as sorties in Naga City, where she filed candidacy for mayor.

During their joint campaign, Robredo introduced Pacquiao to local folk and stating "Siya ay mabait, mapagkakatiwalaan (He is a kind and trustworthy man). We will always be behind Manny Pacquiao."

“Magkalaban na kami sa presidente tulong pa din si senator Pacquiao sa akon (Even when we were rivals for the presidency, senator Pacquiao was still helping me)," she reportedly added.

Robredo, a Liberal Party (LP) stalwart, was referring to the Palace race back in May 2022 where they were both contenders. Before this, she was the vice president from 2016 to 2022.

Meanwhile, Abalos, a former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary thanked Arroyo throwing her support behind his Senate bid.

The senatorial aspirant posted on his Facebook Wednesday a quote card attributed to Arroyo, the current Pampanga 2nd district congresswoman.

"EDSA DOS. Sa lahat ng mayor ng Metro Manila, isa lang ang kumampi sa atin, si Mayor Benhur Abalos ng Mandaluyong. Kaya sana, kayong lahat, tulungan ninyo ako. Gawin natin siyang Senator Benhur ABALOS!" read the quote from ex-president.

(It was EDSA DOS. Out of all the mayors in Metro Manila, only one sided with me, it was Mayor Benhur Abalos of Mandaluyong. That's why I ask all of you, please help me. Let's make him Senator Benhur Abalos!)

Arroyo served in Malacañang from 2001 to 2010.
