Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru is set to embark on an Official Visit to the Philippines on April 29 to 30, Malacañang confirmed.

In a statement, the Palace said President Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos will welcome Prime Minister Ishiba and his spouse, Mrs. Ishiba Yoshiko, in official engagements at Malacañan on April 29.
The two leaders will also have a meeting to discuss issues of common concern.
"The meeting of President Marcos and Prime Minister Ishiba will aim to deepen and improve economic and development cooperation, political and defense engagements, and people-to-people exchanges," it said.
"Both leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and global developments, and explore new pathways towards peace and stability under the ‘Strengthened Strategic Partnership’ between the two countries," it added.
The two leaders last met in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summits in October 2024.
During their meeting in Laos, President Marcos said he was pleased to meet Minister Ishiba immediately after his inauguration, and that he was delighted to see the strengthening of bilateral relations between Japan and the Philippines as well as the progress in Japan-US-Philippines cooperation.
In response, Prime Minister Ishiba said that he would like to further deepen cooperation with the Philippines amid an "increasingly challenging regional security environment."
The exchange of high-level visits is a main feature of Philippines-Japan relations. President Marcos made an official visit to Japan in February 2023, which was returned by Japan’s then Prime Minister Kishida Fumio in an official visit in November 2023.
