Senatorial hopeful Camille Villar received a major boost in her campaign after top political figures in Lanao del Norte expressed their full support during her visit to the province on Tuesday.
Rep. Khalid Dimaporo, representing the province’s first district, endorsed Villar’s Senate bid during a local sortie, calling on residents to rally behind her candidacy in the upcoming May elections. “We believe Camille Villar will bring real, tangible development to our communities,” said Dimaporo.
Governor Imelda “Angging” Dimaporo echoed the endorsement in a separate event, assuring Villar of the province’s support. The Dimaporos also arranged meetings between Villar and several local mayors and candidates, giving her a platform to discuss her vision and legislative priorities.
In her speech, Villar emphasized the urgency of transforming Philippine agriculture into a more attractive and sustainable sector, especially for the younger generation. She stressed the need for training programs, better equipment, and modern technologies to enhance productivity and secure the country’s food supply.
“We need to make agriculture a viable and dignified livelihood—one that the youth can be proud to pursue,” Villar said.
She also underscored the vital role of infrastructure in accelerating regional and national progress. Citing her brother Senator Mark Villar’s tenure as Secretary of Public Works and Highways, she highlighted the Pangil Bay Bridge project—a 3.77-kilometer connector between Misamis Occidental and Lanao del Norte—as a model of transformative development that reduces travel time and boosts local economies.
Villar also credited her mother, Senator Cynthia Villar, for championing agricultural development in the Senate. She noted that over P200 million in machinery and financial assistance had been extended to 71 cooperatives in Lanao del Norte alone under her mother’s leadership.
“These projects are proof that strategic investments in agriculture and infrastructure can change lives. I intend to carry that work forward,” she said.
Aside from agriculture and infrastructure, Villar reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for other key sectors, including youth empowerment, maternal welfare, senior citizens’ rights, and support for Overseas Filipino Workers.
With broad-based endorsements and a platform rooted in continuity and innovation, Camille Villar aims to bring her family’s legacy of service into a new chapter of national leadership.
