Former world title challenger Dave Apolinario suffered an upset knockout loss against Chinese opponent LongYi Hu in their non-title super flyweight bout Tuesday, April 22, at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

After dictating the tempo earlier in the contest, Apolinario went down twice in the third frame – the last of which came after receiving a right hook to the chin which ended the bout with 1:15 left in the round.
The pride of General Santos City slid to a 21-2 record and suffered his second knockout loss in his last three fights.
He was actually on his comeback trail after absorbing his first knockout loss when he fought Mexican Angel Ayala Lardizabal for the vacant world International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight title last year.
Hu, on the other hand, improved to a 9-2 record after surviving the initial onslaught from Apolinario in the opening round.
A booming left uppercut from the 26-year-old fighter even had Hu’s knees buckling although the Chinese survived at the corner and then regained strength in the second round to make his comeback.
Things turned worse for Apolinario when he was caught by a whistling right straight from Hu and eventually got knocked down by another right to the head midway through the third.
Apolinario managed to get back up and evade Hu for some time before he found himself on the corner once more. The devastating right hook then connected for Hu as Apolinario went down and never got up from there.
