BACOLOD CITY – The Cadiz City government in Negros Occidental will provide P100,000 each to 26 families affected by a fire in Talaba-an, Barangay Zone 1, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Black Saturday.

Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., in a radio interview, said that this assistance worth a total of P2.6 million is intended for the fire victims to rebuild their homes.
Escalante said that P50,000 will be given initially to those who will rebuild homes in the same area, while an additional P50,000 will be provided to those who will decide to transfer to the relocation site, which is 1.5 kilometer away from the city proper.
He said that the funds will be sourced from the quick response and other available funds.
Escalante said that 118 individuals have been affected by the blaze that gutted 16 houses and partially damaged three. The fire victims were temporarily sheltered at the Philippine Normal University.
The city government has extended P5,000 immediate cash assistance to each family a day after the incident for their basic necessities.
The fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring based on the initial investigation of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Cadiz.
Escalante said that he is awaiting the final report of the arson investigators.
