Vice President Sara Duterte said on Tuesday, April 22, that she is confident on her lawyers that they can win the impeachment trial set to begin in July in the Senate.

In an interview in Danao City, the official shared that she immediately held a meeting with her lawyers upon her arrival from The Hague, Netherlands, where she stayed for almost a month to help build former president Rodrigo Duterte’s defense team.
“Nung pag-uwi ko galing The Hague ay nag-meeting kami dahil isa din yun sa mga inaasikaso ko. At sinabil nila (When I returned from The Hague, I met with them because that’s one [of the things] I am fixing. They told me) they are more than confident in winning the impeachment trial--impeachment case,” she said.
The Vice President, however, refused to give details on the preparations for her impeachment trial.
“Ako naman (As for me), I’m most confident with the lawyers working on my impeachment case,” she stressed.
The official was impeached by Congress on Feb. 5, and is set to face the Senate’s impeachment trial this July.
Grounds for her impeachment include the misuse of government funds, incitement to insurrection, and other impeachable offenses.
Duterte also rejected claims that she backtracked on her original plan not to endorse any candidate for the upcoming May 2025 midterm elections because she needed the votes to overturn her impeachment case in the upper chamber.
“Kasi ang nag-trigger ng paglabas ko ay ‘yung ginawa nila kay [dating] pangulong Duterte. At ‘yung ginawa nila na injustice kay [dating] pangulong Duterte na kinuha nila dito sa Pilipinas, sapilitan nilang sinakay sa airplane na walang mga permiso at dinala doon sa The Hague at ipinakulong nila sa mga dayuhan (What triggered the endorsement was what they did to [former] President Duterte. The injustice done to [former] President Duterte who they took from the Philippines, forcibly placed in an airplane without permits and brought to The Hague to be imprisoned by foreigners),” she said.
Previously, the Vice President said she would not be endorsing even her father’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) bets.
But shortly after her arrival from The Hague, political ads of her endorsement of Rep. Rodante Marcoleta and Senator Imee Marcos circulated on social media. A photo of an endorsement shoot with Rep. Camille Villar was also published.
