DAVAO CITY – Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, the youngest daughter of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, recently posted heartfelt messages from her father to their family through her Instagram stories.

In her post, Veronica revealed her father’s heartfelt expressions of love and encouragement for her, her mother Honeylet Avenceña, and her siblings — Vice President Sara, Davao City Mayor Sebastian, and Rep. Paolo Duterte.

Former President Duterte’s message, written as a letter titled “Dear Family,” following Veronica’s message, reflected the former Chief Executive’s emotions during what seemed to be a calm and introspective time.

According to a letter from the family patriarch, he was so happy upon hearing the message from his youngest daughter. It said Duterte smiled and said, “He loves you. He sends you all his love. He repeated many times how much he loves you.” He also expressed love for Honeylet.

Former President Duterte encouraged his three other children—Paolo, Sara, and Sebastian—to find their purpose in life as he has found his. It said on the letter: “Be strong and find a purpose in life. I have found mine. I love you.”

It can be recalled that Veronica and her mother traveled to The Hague in the Netherlands to visit her father, who had been detained after he was handed over to the International Criminal Court last month for alleged crimes against humanity.

Veronica shared her message for her father on her Instagram before leaving The Hague. It said:

1. I sang and talked to you by the window during my last night in The Hague. Listen carefully.

2. I loved you as head of state, but I love you even more now that you are 80, retired, and you consider yourself a nobody.

3. I am always looking at you. I know of your wavy hair, curl on the right brow, bigger right eye, nose leaning to the right, which makes your right alar base broader, deeper nasolabial fold on the left, and contagious smile.

4. I am going home today, but like the song, you are always on my mind. I love you.

Veronica’s heartfelt message revealed a strong emotional bond, highlighting her deep personal connection with her father. She shared her intent to write to him daily, noting how much the elder Duterte cherishes letters and amusement over a “terrible handwriting.”

Her Instagram post also swiftly gained attention across social media, as netizens showed their support and admiration for the family’s closeness.

The people were touched by the genuine and heartfelt nature of Duterte’s words, especially his focus on love and finding purpose.

Vice President Duterte recently confirmed that Veronica has returned to the Philippines to continue her studies, while their brother, Rep. Duterte, is on his way to The Hague and will stay there until before the midterm elections in the Philippines.
