Tap into faster payments: GCash, Mastercard introduce Tap n' Pay in Philippines
GCash and Mastercard have launched a new contactless payment feature that seeks to provide Filipinos with faster and more convenient everyday transactions.
Ren-Ren Reyes, G-XChange, Inc., president and chief executive officer, said the new Tap n' Pay feature allows GCash users with NFC-enabled Android phones to make payments by simply tapping their devices on compatible point-of-sale (POS) terminals where Mastercard is accepted.
G-XChange is the mobile wallet operator of GCash.
Reyes said their collaboration integrates GCash’s accessibility with Mastercard’s payment network, offering a secure and seamless payment experience for both consumers and merchants.
Simon Calasanz, Mastercard country manager for the Philippines, said they introduced a new method for contactless digital payments using NFC technology.
He noted that the partnership furthers Mastercard's commitment to providing greater choice for cardholders and enabling a more frictionless payment experience.
OpenFabric, GCash’s digital payment partner, plays a vital role in enabling Mastercard’s tokens and managing the transaction gateway, ensuring a smooth and secure Tap n’ Pay experience at POS terminals.
Users need an active internet or cellular data connection for secure and uninterrupted transactions.
Currently available for local transactions, GCash plans to expand the Tap n’ Pay feature for international use in the future as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance financial access and convenience for Filipinos.
