House Speaker Martin Romualdez has chosen the take the high road amid the attacks of political opponents in the lead up to the May 12 mid-term elections.
Romualdez, president of the dominant Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), addressed the matter during the party's national meeting on Tuesday, April 22 in Malacañang.
“Let them throw mud—we will build roads, schools, hospitals, and jobs. Let them play politics—we will serve. The people will see through the noise and choose results,” the Speaker told his fellow party stalwarts.
Romualdez, a lawyer and veteran legislator, is running for reelection as Leyte 1st district congressman.
However, his stature as a top lieutenant of the Marcos administration has exposed him and his party broader criticism, especially with the polls just around the corner.
It was during the Lakas-CMD National Meeting that Romualdez rallied his party-mates to ensure the "sweeping victory" of the administration-backed Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial ticket.
“We are choosing leaders who build, not break. Leaders who legislate, not obstruct. Leaders who offer solutions, not slogans,” underscored the Speaker.
“When Lakas moves, the nation follows. And today (Tuesday), we are moving with purpose,” Romualdez said. “Sama-sama tayong babangon at susulong (We will rise and move forward together). This is our time to build a nation that works for all.”
According to Lakas-CMD Executive Director Anna Capella Velasco, a total of 6,114 candidates are running under the Lakas-CMD banner for the 2025 elections.
