Vice President Sara Duterte confirmed Rep. Duterte’s visit during a brief interview in Cebu.
She said her brother will remain in The Hague until shortly before the Philippine midterm elections, where the lawmaker is running for reelection as congressman.
The Vice President said that their father’s common-law partner, Honeylet Avanceña, has coordinated her schedule to support Rep. Duterte’s campaign in the Philippines. She added that Avanceña will endorse reelectionist Rep. Duterte in Davao City.
“Congressman Pulong Duterte is expected to remain in the Netherlands until shortly before the elections, as he will need to return to Davao City to cast his vote,” Vice President Duterte said in the local dialect.
Speaking before a campaign rally at Royal Valley in Barangay Talomo here on April 11, Rep. Duterte said he could not continue campaigning as he had to take over for Avanceña and his sister Veronica “Kitty” Duterte at The Hague.
Vice President Duterte also confirmed that Veronica has returned to the Philippines.
Rep. Duterte’s office has not yet confirmed if the lawmaker has arrived at The Hague in the Netherlands.
The House of Representatives approved travel clearance for Rep. Duterte last month, allowing him to visit 17 countries, including Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China, for personal reasons.
Earlier this month, Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, son of Rep. Duterte, assured the public that the First Congressional District Office in Davao City continues to operate despite the congressman's absence.
