The Parañaque City Council approved an ordinance mandating the Clean-As-You-Go (CLAYGO) practice in all food-serving establishments in the city and provides penalties for violations.Â
Â
Parañaque Mayor Eric Olivarez said the ordinance aims to promote cleanliness and minimize health risks to hygiene, health and safety, and to raise awareness and habit on proper waste segregation. Â
Â
The mayor pointed out that the CLAYGO habit will promote a culture of cleanliness, discipline, and environmental responsibility among city residents.
Â
He said the implementation of CLAYGO will also reduce the workload for restaurant staff and encourage discipline among individuals, especially children, who learn valuable life skills like cleaning up after themselves.
Â
The mayor said Ordinance No. 2025-06 covers all restaurants, canteens, coffee shops, cafeteria, bakeries, food stalls, eateries, fast food chains, and all similar establishments that cater to diners or customers.
Â
Olivarez also expressed his commitment to support the local law.
Â
The mayor said children, persons with disabilities, including the elderly, are also subject to the provisions under Section 6 of the ordinance. They are expected to clean up if they can, or their companions are encouraged to assist them.
Â
Olivarez said the ordinance tasked the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) under Atty. Melanie Soriano-Malaya and the City Health Office to conduct periodic inspections of all covered establishments in order to ensure compliance with the pertinent provisions.Â
Â
The BPLO was also directed to make a layout for the stickers of CLAYGO that can be downloaded and disseminated online or by email for the use of the food establishments.Â
Â
Any offender who does not comply with the ordinance shall be penalized with a fine of P500 for every violation of the Clean-As-You-Go practice.Â
Â
For owners and managers of establishments who fail to practice the policy, they shall be reprimanded for the first offense; will be imposed a fine of P2,000 and notice of violation for the second offense; and a revocation of their permit and a fine of P5,000 for the third offense.Â
