CEBU CITY – Illegal drugs worth P77.5 million were seized in the first 100 days of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) chief Police Col. Enrico Figueroa.

Dismantling criminal activities in the city per instruction of Police Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas, have been the focus of Figueroa, who took over as CCPO chief last Jan. 11.
The CCPO conducted 671 anti-illegal drug operations since Figueroa took over, leading to the confiscation of 11,409.38 grams of shabu and the arrest of 756 drug personalities.
Police Lt. Col. Maria Theresa Macatantay, deputy city director for operations of the CCPO, said the huge amount of shabu could have destroyed a lot of lives if they were able to find their way to drug users.
“This is a big achievement by our city director because if they were not taken off the streets, a lot of users, most are youth, could have been victimized and it will evolve to other forms of crime," said Macatangay.
The CCPO also intensified its campaign against illegal gambling where 586 individuals were arrested in 307 operations. One-hundred forty-two loose firearms were confiscated and 170 firearms were surrendered.
Two-hundred ninety-seven wanted persons were arrested while the conduct of “Oplan: Bulabog” resulted in the rescue of 6,350 minors.
From Jan. 11 to April 21 this year, the number of eight focus crimes here dropped by 25.51 percent compared to the same period last year. The eight focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, carnapping of vehicles, and carnapping of motorcycles.
Macatangay emphasized that figures showed that crime rate in the city has been low.
“So I'm pretty sure a lot of people will raise their eyebrows about it but the statistics do not lie and these are obtained from info-terminals that we call police stations. We based our figures on the complaints that were reported in the blotter of the police stations," said Macatangay.
