Mayor Vico reminds stakeholders: Abolish 'palakasan' system

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto reminded the heads of the city's offices taking care of the needs of sectoral groups to eliminate the "palakasan" system in its programs and ensure that benefits for Pasigueños are undertaken progressively.

Sotto affirmed that sectoral organizations play a vital role in the success of the city programs. However, the system of the prevalent use of connections and influence to give advantage to few individuals must be halted.

He cited a scenario where benefits in a certain sector have to go through in an organization, which should not be the case.

He asserted that since 2019, Pasig City is actively putting so much effort to abolish the palakasan system — citing the implementation of Local Senior Pension, which catered and served more senior citizens.

Mayor Vico said that the city is steadfast to its goal in helping its rightful beneficiaries and constituents, despite the criticisms in this major reform.

He reminded that this framework must be utilized to all organizations, to benefit the general public and ones most in need. (Vincent Brian Gutierrez)
