BOC destroys ?3.2-billion illicit vape shipments in major anti-smuggling operation
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) is destroying approximately ₱3.26 billion worth of seized illicit vape products to reinforce its commitment to combat smuggling and protect public health.
In a statement, Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio said the BOC began large-scale condemnation on April 7, 2025, following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to target unauthorized and unsafe vape items.
The operations are taking place at waste facilities in Bulacan, specifically at RCU Waste Collection Services in Marilao and Barba Waste Management in Bocaue.
The BOC, through the Manila International Container Port and Port of Manila, has so far destroyed over one million vape products deemed unfit for public use or lacking proper clearances since the ceremonial condemnation led by the President.
The Auction and Cargo Disposal Division, Enforcement and Security Service, and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service are overseeing these operations, with support from the Philippine Army and Coast Guard providing security.
Rubio said this initiative aligns with Republic Act No. 10863, the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, which mandates the destruction of prohibited goods, and Republic Act No. 11900, which regulates vape products.
Rubio said that their resolve to stop smuggling remains firm.
He added that destroying these illicit vapes shows their dedication to a safer, regulated market built on health, integrity, and governance.
The BOC noted that this ongoing crackdown highlights its critical role in securing borders and protecting Filipinos from the risks of unregulated products.
