Chinese Taipei’s Kaohsiung Taipower continued its electrifying performance and spoiled Petro Gazz’s debut in the AVC Women's Champions League, scoring a 25-15, 25-16, 19-25, 25-20 win to advance to the quarterfinal at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City Monday, April 21.

Taipower, a nine-time winner in the Taiwanese league, displayed its poise and recovered from its third-set stumble before denying the Angels’ attempt in the fourth frame for a spot in the quarterfinals.
The Angels, who recently reigned supreme in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference titlist, have their chance to bounce back when they face Hip Hing on Tuesday, April 22.
At stake for both squads is a ticket to quarters.
Hsu Wan-Yun starred for Taipower with 18 points built on 16 attacks and two aces, while Peng Yu-Rou and Tsai Yu-Chun backed her up with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
On the other hand, Giovanna Day took the spotlight in her first-ever game as an Angel and dazzled with 18 points. Brooke Van Sickle (13), MJ Phillips (9) and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas (8) provided the support offensively.
Meanwhile, Beijing Baic Motor pulled off a 22-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-13, 15-10 reverse-sweep win over VTV Binh Dien Long An to also clinch a quarterfinal berth.
The Chinese club remained composed despite trailing in the first two sets then turned on the jets in the following sets with Jin Ye leading the way.
It was the second straight triumph by the Kuang Qi-mentored squad after its 28-26, 25-22, 25-19 romp of Iran’s Saipa Tehran in the competition's opener last Sunday, April 20, at the same venue.
With Baic Motor (2-0) advancing to the next round, Binh Dien (0-1) and Saipa Tehran (0-1) will face each other for the second seat in the knockout stage.
Earlier, Thailand’s Nakhon Rachasima Qmin C VC made quick work of the youthful Queensland Pirates of Australia, 25-10, 25-16, 25-12, to begin its AVC quest with a bang.
Nakhon notched its first win to tie with the PLDT High Speed Hitters (1-0) in Pool D, while the Pirates have been booted out of contention after their second consecutive defeat.
The Thailand-based group now challenges the High Speed Hitters for the top spot in their KO round this Tuesday, April 22.
