The Taguig City government reported a fish kill in the Lakeshore part of Laguna Lake.
The Taguig Lake and River Management Office (LRMO) reported that from April 2 to 18, it has collected 2,120 kilos of dead fish.
The city government said the possible causes of the fish kill are sudden decrease in dissolved oxygen in water, high water temperature, increase in algae, too many fish in fish pens, and pollution or discharge of dirty water from households or agriculture.
It cautioned the public that they may experience a pungent odor in the surrounding area due to the natural process of decomposing dead fish, which releases hydrogen sulfide and ammonia.
The city government is collecting and disposing of dead fish daily and monitoring the quality of water in Laguna Lake.
It called on fish cage operators to avoid overstocking that can worsen the situation.
