Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidates Benhur Abalos and Panfilo "Ping" Lacson have hailed the Philippine National Police (PNP) for its swift resolution to the Que-Pabillo kidnap-slay case.
“I commend our police force led by PNP Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil for a job well done. This is a very hard task since our investigators literally started from scratch, yet, they were able to pinpoint one of the key players,” Abalos said on Monday, April 21.
“With this kind of investigation skills, I am confident that they would be able to identify the rest of those involved, particularly the persons who ordered the kidnapping and killing of Anson Que and his driver Armanie Pabillo,” added the former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary.
The DILG supervises the PNP through the National Police Commission (Napolcom).
Over the weekend, Lacson--a former PNP chief--gave the organization its props.
"Just as we criticized the PNP for the kidnap-slay of Anson Que and Armanie Pabillo, we must now give them credit for the arrest of 3 out of at least 5 suspects. Equally important is the conviction of ALL the perpetrators by building an airtight case," Lacson said in a post on his X account on Sunday.
Lacson, who solved several kidnapping cases during his career as a law enforcer, reminded the PNP that the next step now is to ensure the conviction of the perpetrators.
On Saturday, the PNP disclosed that three of the suspects are now in custody, with Richardo David and Raymart Catequista being arrested in Palawan on Friday evening and David Tan Liao having surrendered Saturday afternoon.
Que, also known as Anson Tan, a businessman; and Pabillo were last seen on March 29 after departing Elison Steel’s office in Valenzuela City. Their bodies were found on April 9, dumped along a roadside in Barangay Macabud, Rodriguez, Rizal.
As a lawyer, Abalos emphasized the importance of solid evidence in securing convictions. "Importante rin yung ebidensiyang makukuha mo (It's important to ensure that the evidence you gathered) should prove guilt without reasonable doubts."
Former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary and senatorial candidate Benhur Abalos Jr. lauded the Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil, for the swift resolution of the kidnapping and murder case of businessman Anson Que and his driver, Armanie Pabillo.
“Masaya ako, tinawagan ko si Chief PNP Marbil at kanyang mga kasama, binabati ko sila. Napakagandang accomplishment niyan,” Abalos said in a radio interview today. “Sabi ko nga, ipakita natin sa tao na hindi natin palalampasin ang ganitong uri ng krimen.”
Abalos explained that this recent accomplishment is significant since the arrest of David Tan Liao also established the involvement of the same group to at least five similar kidnap-for-ransom cases.
Police said they are still looking for at least two Chinese who are apparently members of the core group that ordered the kidnapping and killing of Que. The PNP is now seeking the assistance of the Anti-Money Laundering Council in order to identify the recipient of the P200 million in cryptocurrency that was sent in multiple batches to the masterminds.
Abalos expressed confidence that the PNP will be able to identify and reveal more of this modus in the coming days, especially when all the other government agencies pitch in their share to ultimately solve this case.
“I worked with most of these key PNP officers and I can vouch for their dedication, hard work and investigation skills to bring to justice those who would dare to violate our laws,” said Abalos.
