Over 1.17 million passengers served at 'much better' NAIA during Holy Week

Passenger volume during Holy Week at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) recorded double-digit growth this year, as operations across the airport’s terminals remained efficient with an on-time performance (OTP) of more than 80 percent.

New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), the private operator of NAIA, said more than 1.17 million passengers traveled through NAIA from Palm Sunday, April 13, to Easter Sunday, April 20.

With a 12.7-percent jump from last year’s 1.04 million passengers, NNIC said this year was “one of the busiest Holy Weeks for the country’s main gateway in recent years.”

The daily average for passenger volume stood at 146,611, with Easter Sunday logging the highest single-day volume at 156,635.

Domestic passenger traffic rose by 14.19 percent, while international travel saw an 11.21-percent increase.

“This Holy Week showed how much better NAIA is becoming. We saw higher passenger numbers, but smoother and faster operations,” said NNIC President Ramon Ang.

NAIA logged an OTP of 83.28 percent across its three terminals throughout the Holy Week travel rush.

The operator said this is an indicator of smoother airport operations and more efficient turnaround for airlines, made possible through support from government agencies and recent operational improvements.

“That’s not by chance; it’s the result of planning, investment, and teamwork,” Ang said. “We’re just getting started, and we will keep working to build the airport our country deserves.”

NNIC, a consortium headed by Ang’s diversified conglomerate San Miguel Corp. (SMC), assumed management of NAIA in September last year.

Since then, it has introduced a number of upgrades aimed at improving passenger flow and efficiency across the airport.

The firm is investing approximately ₱170 billion to modernize and expand the country’s primary gateway into a globally competitive airport.

“NNIC continues to roll out upgrades and process improvements across all terminals to accommodate rising passenger traffic and ensure a consistently high level of service—particularly during peak travel periods such as Holy Week,” it said.
